This dual-purpose optical device works as both an optical switch and an optical splitter. As a switch, it will allow you to connect more than one input source to your home theater amplifier/receiver. Connect up to 2 audio sources and choose between them, rather than dealing with the hassle of constantly unplugging and reconnecting cables. Switch between digital audio components such as your satellite receiver, CD/DVD player, and video game console with ease. Just connect 2 of your audio sources to one end of this switch, and connect the other end to your amplifier/receiver. Then simply power on the source you would like to hear, and this device will auto sense it and begin outputting the audio to your amplifier/receiver.

Summary: Great solution for multiple optical cables
Comment: I am using this splitter to connect a blu-ray player and XBOX 360 to my surround sound system, which has only one imput. It works great, and I don't notice any decrease in sound quality.

Comment: Tried using this to hook my PC and my 360 up to my receiver since I only have one optical input, since the computer always sends a signal it didn't work for me whether the 360 was on or not.

Summary: May need high quality Toslink cables
Comment: I used this optical switch to connect my DVD player and my laptop audio to the Toslink input for my receiver. The laptop audio came through but the DVD audio did not. I only tested one device at a time. I was able to get the DVD working by replacing my cables with high quality Toslink cables (one 6ft and the other 3ft).

Summary: Absolute waste of money
Comment: Product only outputs sound if one of the digital optical cables is plugged in. When I have both my PS3 & DVR plugged in (even with the DVR off) it wont work until I pull the DVR plug out. Complete waste of time and money

Comment: Confirmed, the one from Gadged Dweeb is a switch and splitter. I'm using this as an switch to split one input of my Sony home theater into two and it works fine with two xbox. My only regret is with Gadged Dweeb who didn't send me all the items that I ordered and didn't answer my questions by email. At least they refund me for the missing item.
