For the first time ever, musicians who record music on computers have a simple, affordable way to capture high-quality vocal and acoustic instrument performances. Seamless integration was the idea, and it was obtained by creating a studio condenser microphone that can be plugged into any computer with no in/out boxes, no expensive computer pre-amps, just a USB cable. It features a 19mm internal shock mounted diaphragm with a cardioid pick up pattern ensuring pristine studio quality recordings. The C01U works perfectly on any computer, Mac or PC, and with any DAW software program. It immediately solves a huge problem for users of many laptops, many of which have no other input method for audio devices. It's a must for any musician on the road or in the project studio, but the C01U is going to offer solutions to more than just musicians. The mic opens up possibilities for anyone who records audio?from Podcasters, journalists, students, and business people adding audio files to websites and multimedia presentations. Smooth, Flat Frequency Response USB connection cable included Perfect microphone for Podcasters as well as Musicians 16-bit sample resolution Supports 8 kHz, 11.025 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 44.1 kHz, and 48 kHz sampling rates USB low-power device - draws 26 mA => 130 mW. In suspend mode 0.3 mA => 1.5 mW. Frequency response - 40 Hz to 18 kHz

Customer Rating: Summary: Great Comment: Very nice and easy to set up Mic. Especially nice with OS X. I use mine with an additional wind screen.
Customer Rating: Summary: Latency Comment: So I've always wanted to record my music, say just vocals and acoustic guitar for example, and I wanted something that seemed simple to use/set up, inexpensive, and good quality. I looked that up and ended up finding this microphone -- "perfect for musicians, studio quality recording, etc." everything seemed perfect so I went and bought it. Now this would have been the perfect microphone, until I set it up and found an issue that would change everything...LATENCY!! This baby has a 1/2 to 1 second lag when I record, and looking up other forums this seems to be a problem with everyone else - it is the USB recording process in itself (converting analog signal to digital takes time to process = latency). There are ways to lower it, but after I tried everything I still had a fraction of a second, which is like a year when trying to overdub. Don't get me wrong it has excellent quality(like I said it *would* have been the perfect mic) but latency makes it IMPOSSIBLE to overdub/mix multiple tracks, which is almost a necessity for solo recording unless you can settle with single tracks. So if all you want to do is podcasts, internet talk, or otherwise single tracks, this would probably be for you. Another thing, the driver software they tell you to download is problematic; recording for over a minute or so at a time caused the sound to become erratic, every time. And this microphone DOES NOT WORK WITH VISTA.
PROS: Great quality, Plug and play is easy(in most cases), good for the price, comes with a free Sonar LE program, USB bus powered.
CONS: USB MICROPHONES HAVE LATENCY(lag!), driver software is problematic and should be avoided, does not work with vista.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Microphone Comment: I like this product and I would reccommend anyone to buy one.
Great quality micropnone
Customer Rating: Summary: Great mic for the beginner! Comment: I've had the Samson CO1U microphone for aboug 6 months now, and I couldn't be more pleased with it. It is reliable, and the recording quality is excellent.
The monodirectional carotid diaphragm does a nice job of reducing external noises such as the fan of your computer, and the sound quality is quite crisp and clear. My only gripe is that as one increases the space from the sound source to the microphone, one begins to get increased background hiss. As such, someone who needs crystal clear sound will require a pop filter to avoid signal overload when explosive consonants are used (S, P, D, T, B).
If you can't afford a full studio setup with an amplifier, condenser mic, and specialized computer interfaces, this microphone is a great choice. Provided you use a pop filter, you won't be disappointed.
Customer Rating: Summary: NOT for LIVE recording!!!!! Comment: Although this mic has fantastic sound for the price, it is not meant to be used with live based music recording. The latency (delay) is very high! You can expect to hear anywhere from 1-4 seconds of silence before sound acctually goes through your speakers. This is very frustrating when trying to stay on ryhthm.
DO NOT buy this mic if you are planning to use it with Ableton Live or similar software!!! It works, but at the expense of annoying delay.
