The tone and collar of the sound are controlled by simply rotating the "cap" and "collar" of the housing. This "white noise" sound effectively masks unwanted noises and creates a sense of calm, making it easier to concentrate, communicate, relax, and sleep.

Summary: Apartment living is noisy.
Comment: I read the reviews of this product, and I ordered this product being unsure of what it would do.
I have to say, it's a product that does exactly what it says it will do. It creates white noise at varying levels.
There is no miracle product that is going to mask all sounds of people upstairs walking around. The noise would have to be jackhammer-like for that to work, which would cause its own problems. This product cannot wipe away all the pitfalls of apartment living. It is not advertised as a "miracle-in-a-box."
It is a white noise machine, and as such, it seems a high quality one with varying levels of control. I'm happy with the purchase. I do think $50 is a bit pricey, but it doesn't have much of a mechanical sound, and I think cheaper ones might have grating motors that would be annoying and hard to ignore.
I can still hear my neighbor walking around upstairs. But it does mask out reasonable music noise, TV noise, and talking noise.

Comment: I bought this to cover up/drown out the noise from my new neighbors. They are up all night talking and I don't care to hear their conversations. This device works wonderfully. I put it on my desk near their window and turn it on when needed. I've been able to adjust easily to the gentle noise it makes! Thank you!

Comment: I never had a sound machine, but since I live in a condo I have a neighbor that lives up above me. I use to hear there water running,foot steps,and tv. This sound machine makes every thing go away. It makes me sleep through the night without any interruptions. I highly recommend, especially for those who lives in an apartment.
